West Homestead

The West Homestead is the centerpiece of the livestock operations and is equipped with complete cattle working facilities, including a large calving barn (4700 sf) with a new warming house inside, suitable for the coldest nights during calving season. Several pastures and corrals have been developed to easily process livestock, while at the same time avoid grazing or disrupting the river bottom pastures, during spring and early summer nesting season.

This homestead has provided shelter for many generations of cattlemen and their families. Located within fly-casting distance of the Yellowstone River this site has two "turn-of- the-century" houses (many times remodeled), garages, grain bins, a storage Quonset and a vintage stucco bunk house. One of the houses is presently livable and would provide comfortable accommodations for hunters, fishermen or an additional ranch hand.

This homestead site provides one of the most desirable and sheltered building locations on the ranch. Close to the river and overlooking many acres of river-bottom, as well as several miles of mountain ranges. A modern multi- level home could replace the old structures without creating an additional footprint along the unencumbered river frontages, which is only one of many aspects contributing to the desirability of this property.

The homestead barn was refaced to match the riding arena and guest house, adding continuity to the ranch and better insulation to the barn.
